NYC is home to museums, restaurants, and even some of the best apartment buildings in the country, but what really makes NYC stand out amongst other major cities? The answer: Broadway! It’s safe to say that the New York theatre scene is stronger and more dynamic than ever with several new shows and revivals. Case in point: we had a lot of trouble narrowing this list down to just 10 shows we’re stoked about in 2025. (And that’s not to mention all the exciting Off-Broadway productions we couldn’t fit here.
&Juliet
Combining the songs of superstar producer Max Martin with a twist on the classic Shakespeare play, “&Juliet” truly has something for everyone. This Tony-nominated musical poses the question, what would have happened if Juliet didn’t kill herself? and answers through stunning dance numbers choreographed by Jennifer Weber and powerful musical numbers, such as Demi Lovato’s “Confident.” Follow William Shakespeare (Austin Scott) and his wife Anne Hathaway (Tony nominee Betsy Wolfe) as they weave through the tale and leave audiences in stitches.
SIX
Performed for the first time at the 2017 Edinburgh Festival Fringe, “SIX the Musical” lived many lives in the UK before making its way to Broadway and has easily become one of the most popular shows on the Great White Way, as well as on the internet. What makes “SIX” so unique, and perhaps so popular, is that it’s performed in the style of a pop concert. With a short run time of 80 minutes (no intermission), “SIX” still manages to retell the stories of the six wives of Henry VIII with incredible music numbers, fun choreography, and a hilarious book that’s both educational and entertaining. Hadestown
If you’re of a fan of Greek mythology, then this musical is for you. Even if that subject doesn’t immediately strike your fancy, Anaïs Mitchell’s music is bound to draw you in with folk influence and haunting lyrics. Retelling the tale of Eurydice and Orpheus, “Hadestown” is a sung-through musical (like “Hamilton” or “Les Misérables”) that originally captured hearts as a concept album released by Mitchell in 2010. Now gaining fans on the stage, “Hadestown” currently stars stage and screen’s Jordan Fischer (“Sweeney Todd,” “Dear Evan Hansen”) and Solea Pfeiffer (“Hamilton,” “Almost Famous”).
Cabaret
First premiering on Broadway in 1966, “Cabaret” is a truly timeless musical that has made its way back to Broadway now for the 5th time. Currently starring “American Idol’s” Adam Lambert as the Emcee and “Moana’s” Auli’i Cravalho as Sally Bowles, the story follows the nightlife of the Kit Kat Club in Berlin as the Nazis rise to power. With iconic songs like “Maybe This Time” and “Willkommen,” and the intimate in-the-round staging, this production of “Cabaret” is sure to please audiences and leave them wanting more. Make sure to catch Adam Lambert and Auli’i Cravalho before they perform their final show on March 29.
The Outsiders
Based on the 1967 novel with the same title, “The Outsiders” is the 2024 Tony winner for Best Musical and has become a viral sensation. The musical, like the book, is told from the perspective of 14-year-old Ponyboy Curtis, the main protagonist, as he tries to survive rival gang life in Tulsa, Oklahoma. With music and lyrics by Jonathan Clay and Zach Chance from the folk-rock band “Jamestown Revival”, along with Justin Levine, the musical has a folksy vibe to it, providing audiences with catchy tunes, great dance numbers, and a reminder to “stay gold.”
Death Becomes Her
Based on the 1992 film of the same name, “Death Becomes Her” is a new musical to hit the Broadway stage, led by some of Broadway’s greats including Megan Hilty (“9 to 5,” “Wicked”) and Jennifer Simard (“Mean Girls,” “Company”). The musical also stars former member of “Destiny’s Child”, Michelle Williams, as Viola Van Horn. The show tells the story of two women vying for the affection of the same man who resort to magical methods that have awful consequences. Praised by critics and given many a great review, Death Becomes Her is a show that you won’t want to miss.
Sunset Boulevard
Glen Close, Gloria Swanson, and Nicole Scherzinger all have one thing in common: they’ve played Norma Desmond in “Sunset Boulevard.” Close originated the role on Broadway in 1993, while Swanson originated the role in the 1950 film that won 3 Academy Awards. Currently starring in the acclaimed revival, Nicole Scherzinger has taken on the role and is proving every day that she’s more than just a former Pussycat Doll. The story follows faded silent movie star Norma Desmond rotting away in her mansion until an up-and-coming young screenwriter pays her a visit. With raving reviews, this is a production that you won’t want to miss. Trust us, you’re not ready for her close-up.
Gypsy
Originally debuting on Broadway in 1959, “Gypsy” is back on Broadway for the 6th time this year, starring the Broadway actress with the most performer-awarded Tony Awards, Audra McDonald (“Ragtime,” “Shuffle Along”) as Mama Rose. Loosely based on the memoirs of striptease artist Gypsy Rose Lee, the story focuses on her mother, Rose, as she leads her family through the treacherous world of show business, as the ultimate stage mom. Featuring iconic songs that have been covered on shows like “Glee,” “Gypsy” is a classic musical that has something for everyone. From grand dance numbers to songs with true vocal acrobatics, Audra McDonald and the rest of the cast shines.
The Great Gatsby
You know him and you love him; Jay Gatsby has made his way to the Broadway stage in this new production that opened in 2024. Based on the 1925 best-seller, “The Great Gatsby” musical captures the glamour, ambition, and heartbreak of F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel through a dazzling blend of jazz-era music and the tragic tale of Jay Gatsby's unrequited love for Daisy Buchanan. Starting January 21st, Ryan McCartan (“Frozen,” “Heathers”) will take over as Gatsby, and starting February 10th, Sarah Hyland (“Modern Family,” “Little Shop of Horrors”) will take over the role of Daisy. With electric dance numbers and a sizzling score, this show will be a hit for the whole family.
Hell’s Kitchen
Hear the rhythm of the city as Alicia Keys' "Hell's Kitchen” takes center stage on Broadway. Inspired by her own upbringing, this semi-autobiographical musical tells the story of 17-year-old Ali, a gifted young musician navigating family struggles, self-discovery, and the allure of her New York neighborhood. Featuring a mix of Keys' iconic hits like "Fallin',” “No One,” and "Empire State of Mind," alongside new songs, the production captures the grit and soul of chasing dreams.
